Apple, Microsoft and The Republican Party of South Carolina

September 14th, 2009 · 3 Comments

The South Carolina Republican Party has put together the following video:

Ideological points of view aside, this feels a lot like the content of Microsoft’s “I’m a PC” campaign combined with the aesthetic of Apple’s “Get a Mac” ads.

And you know what? We think it works.

Whether or not we like the conservative content (you’ll have to catch us during the cocktail hour to find out), we think it is enhanced by the more progressive-feeling presentation.

These days, the only element of identity more polarizing than one’s political affiliation is one’s computing allegiance. Mac and Microsoft ads sometimes seem designed more to preach to the choir than to score new converts.

With persuasive communications like these, we feel the SC GOP may just become more effective at reaching across the aisle.

Ok, but what about that logo? All that talk of conservative values and then there’s a communist sickle forming the “O” in “SC GOP.”

Or maybe it’s a crescent moon? Maybe they’re trying to reach across more than just the aisle … across oceans? Religions? Weltanschauung?
    Here’s that logo:

Hey Eric — That crescent moon is from the South Carolina flag! fyi …

Hope all is well. I enjoy checking out your blog episodically (as Judge Ken Starr would wax eloquent); many days since LRN!
